Howdy folks! Hope you are well during these frightening times! I have had a bad spill on the command bridge of my older 3077 Carver. it was teak oil/polish that leaked and eventually poured all down the port side of my boat, and dried before being discovered, leaving nasty dark stains everywhere. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to remove the staining with any non toxic solutions we can think of. We are now at our wits end. Do any of you fine folks know how we would go about removing/cleaning this ugly mess without compromising/destroying what little's left of my gel coat. Thanks in advance for any guidance/assistance!

A well supplied marina will have it as well.

If that doesn't work, go to your marina and ask if they will sell you a little bit of acid they use to clean bottoms and wet a rag with it to wipe a small trial area first. Most marinas will have this in bulk so take a small empty water bottle with you. Use protective gloves and don't breathe the stuff.

You can use acetone directly on the gelcoat. Try that on a small spot and see if it removes it.

Ditto Viper's FSR. That would have been my suggestion.

I would try the FSR, if that doesn't work try MEK adhesive remover. I'm sure it will lossen it up, but me sure you have plenty of air moving as it is pretty mean.

Whatever you try here, go slow.....chances are the teak oil has soaked into the old gelcoat and will require careful cleaning. Some products may even drive the oil in further. Got to pull it out somehow......

Give SoftScrub a try. It won't scratch the gelcoat, but has some abrasive and also will bleach out some stains. If any is actually stuck to the surface of the gelcoat, use a rubber eraser wheel with a drill to remove it - $10 from Mr. Bezos. Be careful with some cleaners - they can soften or damage the gelcoat! I've seen some problems with folks using oven cleaner or acetone/solvent based cleaners.
