Hello,

We have a deposit on a 2001 396. Seller is broke and is giving allowances for items that need attention from the survey. Rudder bearings are weeping while underway. During the haul the starboard side had 1/8 wiggle.

Thus I was hoping the group here has had experience with replacing them and at what expense.

thanks Dan :help:

I replaced 1 gasket for the weeping. Looks like rope soaked in wax. Not a big deal at all. I have the starboard side doing it a bit, going to do it when we are on the hard for winter. Youtube is your friend on this one.

This Model uses "TIDES BEARINGS" through a FRP rudder tube that terminates above the water line. Does yours have the same setup?

Not sure, sorry. There was 2 large nuts on the shaft which compressed the rope type seal. loosened, replaced, re-tighten.
