Generator Diesel Fuel Shut Off Valve

Changed my generator filter last week. Found out it has no shutoff valve so I used a vice grip to squeeze the feed line shut while I replaced the filter. Worked fine but figured I should make this right by installing a small 3/8" ball valve since the line is marked as 3/8". Will install close to filter for easy access in the future.

Question, is there any need for something special for a valve? I assume this is fine with a couple of good hose clamps on each end?

You're fine with clamps. You shouldn't pinch newer A1+ fuel lines anymore. You can ruin the inner plastic lining that was introduced in recent years to minimize permeation and deal with ethanol fuels.

Hans, get yourself an Oetiker clamp kit. It's perfect for that sort of thing. They're not as easy to remove as they must be cut but it's quick and they won't strip like the screw type will especially on that size clamp. Make sure it's a stainless steel clamp version and look for a kit with the tool, they usually have several size clamps included.

Midnightsun, I too found no shut-off valve on my 41CMY and made quite the mess with spilled diesel. I will heed your advice and install a ball valve! Thanks
