I bought my first carver and need help

Postby Iwantacarver » March 22nd, 2021, 5:32 am

I just boufht a 2005 carver 36 mariner , two gas engines 300 hours one owner boat. I have a few questions please

What do I pour down toilets so it doesn’t smell?

Anything I check or change regularily ?

Any tips in general? I’ve hosted my whole life but never actually owned a flybridge carver

There are chemicals that you can purchase at any marine store to help with the odor if it is coming from the holding tank.

There could be other issues too being that the boat is older. That being the hoses to the holding tank themselves. They could be permeated and the odor could be coming from them too possibly.

If you have a 2005, I’m guessing you have a vacuflush head. I’m also assuming it is a fresh water flush. Before using chemicals, do a pump out and while pumping out, have someone inside the boat doing multiple flushes of fresh water.
If you’re not doing this, when you finish pumping out, you always use a fresh water hose to add a couple gallons of water to the tank and pump that out as well.

Quick question...is the smell of the liquid or solid variety? If you have a solid smell, there’s a possibility that solid waste over the years has built up in the bottom of your holding tank, in which case you have a real problem.

If you have serious problems, buy the book “Get Rid of Boat Odors” by Peggie Hall. She is known as “the head mistress” of the marine industry. She truly is a cesspool of knowledge...pun intended.

Be careful of chemicals in vacuflush and for sure don't use any rv toilet chemicals ie the "blue stuff". Hose permeating is a good bet as mentioned. after odor source is found i like this product it will help breakdown waste , its called noflex digester

Is a 2005 carver 36 any good?
It’s a mariner, low hours .

How do you answer a question if a 2005 carver is any good? Thats really subjective. Do you get a survey done before purchase? You must have liked it to buy it. Whats its condition? It's a carver , all boats have good and bad things. You may want to post the question starting a new topic but it would be more helpful to get answers to be more specific on your thoughts or concerns about your boat.
