454 Crusader stall

I have 454 XLi Crusader engines with Velvet V Drives. They start and run great. When returning to my dock I have a couple of 90 degree right turns and by reversing my starboard engine for the turn I've stalled out that engine a few times. Any suggestions for a fix?

Have you changed the fuel filters? And cleaned the round oberg(ufo) filter screen? If not I would start first with the oberg since it's cleanable. I have the same engines the oberg screen doesn't take much to clog it.

Also might check the anti-siphon valves if you think it might be a restriction on the intake side somewehre.
Does this only happen after a cruise? Does it only happen when you put in in reverse? Is it possible that trans is slipping and heating up and staying partly engaged in fwd when you move the lever to reverse? Do you have temp alarms for the trans temp?

The other simple thing is to make sure your flame arresters are clean as well, and have a look in the throttle body bore and see if that is clean around the throttle plate. Easy stuff first.

There's a few possibilities. All the above are valid. Does it stall only as soon as you put it into reverse? Does it stall when you drop down to idle but still in forward? Another possibility is the IAC. When you start back up again, does it go easily into reverse without stalling again?

Thanks for the suggestions. Fuel filters have been cleaned. I don't know what an oberg filter is. Never stalls at idle in forward, I idle in about 1/2 mile before docking. After re- starting it reverses fine. Doesn't stall every time, about 3 out of 10 times.

Is it possible it only stalls if you go into reverse while the boat is in motion, but maybe not if the boat is stationary? Could be that the prop is still turning forward just with the movement of the boat, and a quick reverse will cause a spike in load which might stall the engine. The same thing might happen in fwd if you were reversing down (and the boat was still moving) when you put that same engine in fwd it would stall. Those kind of symptoms do point to the IAC system being gummed up.

I vote for the IAC units being gummed up. try cleaning them, simple DIY project. If after cleaning the issue seems corrected and it comes back replace them. Been there done that!

Even if the problems aren't fuel related this should help id what you have just to double check you have serviced all.. The only filter that can be " cleaned" is the round oberg the following link will help you know what it is,, Heres info on your xli filters. Theres 3 for the engines. From fuel selector valves #1 is a Black 4" round filter which is this....
https://www.jegs.com/i/Oberg-Filters/706/4028U/10002/-1Next in line is a water separator filter looks like this ....
https://www.westmarine.com/buy/racor--1 ... or--108664 and last
There is a inline cannister filter at the tbi....
https://www.go2marine.com/Fuel-Filter-R ... ader-23250
All are on stbd side of engine oberg down low, water seperstor mid height and cannister right next to tbi
