If the hose twists on the hose barb, then you can just unscrew the hose barb from the 90 degree fitting. To use Viper's words: " simply rotate the fitting (hose barb) and it will spin in the hose without removing the hose. Do the same when reinstalling then tighten the clamps again."

Okay, I’ve removed the pump output hose from the old pump. Now I need to remove the hose from the air conditioning strainer so I can unscrew the entire mess from the stringer and remove/replace the pump.

Getting that hose off has proven to be a real challenge. I’ve tried using a hose pulling tool. The access is limited and difficult as you can see from the pics below.

Any techniques or tools would be appreciated!

Well, it’s done and it works great. Boat cooling off nicely as I’m writing this!

I just need to apply a larger amount of force to slip that strainer hose off after I had broken the “seal” with a hose puller.

Thanks to each of you for your excellent advice.

Get a long, thin regular screwdriver and work in in between the hose and the hose barb. Start at one place and work your way around it. Looks like there might be some corrosion or other deposits built up there. When the screwdriver gets in there just make sure you're not digging into the rubber of the hose and damaging that. Once you get around the hose and loosen that up you should be able to grab the hose and "wobble" it off (well, a bit of "twist and wobble")

once you have a gap opened up with the screwdriver, you can also pour a little soapy water in there which also might help it slip off easier.

But I guess that's for next time... just saw you got if off and the new pump installed. Congrats!! Time for a beer??

Glad you got it corrected. Hope you can now sit back and enjoy your boat.

Everyone should have a hose pick on board to aid in removing hoses. It makes life so much easier. It helps in breaking the seal between the hose and the fitting and can be used to stretch/widen the hose when trying to get it off a fitting. In stubborn cases, the tool and a little heat is all it takes. Just be careful not to puncture the hose. Can't stress enough how much of a pain that type of plastic hose is to work with, it's very good hose though.

A tip that has worked fairly well for me. Whenever I have had to remove a hose before I put it back in place I spray the fitting with a little silicone spray. Makes removing that hose the next time a lot easier.
