1998 405 Aft Cabin Window Replacement

I just purchased a 1998 405 aft cabin and starboard side window leaks as well as a slight leak from the forward windows have rotted the wood in the starboard bulkhead in the salon. I'm faced with removing, refurbishing and re-sealing them, or creating a template and replacing them. A couple of folks have told me that Carver windows aren't very well made and tend to leak.
Any knowledge and/or advice someone could share wit me?
Thanks

This is a week point in the 355 and 405.
For the aft cabin windows, you need to remove the complete window assembly. Clean all surfaces, replace the rotted wood inside and reinstall them bedding with a generous amount of 5200. I also removed and re bed the plexiglass and painted the frames in mine while I had them out.
That part is not to bad.
Repairing the interior vinyl and replacing the rotted bath cabinet and counter takes a lot of time.
The good news is when done properly, you should be good for another 20 years.

For the salon windows, it is most likely that the tracks are full of junk and its running in over the bottom of the track. This is an easy fix, or if it's coming in the top around the frame, it needs resealed. As the top of the frame is pretty much hidden by the overhang of the bridge and really doesn't see a lot of water, I cleaned the area well and used a small tube of 4200 to reseal the top of the frame. No problem since and it's been 6 years.

Sorry to here your leaks have damaged your interior. I have a 97 405 with the sliding salon and aft cabin windows (see my profile pic) and for 98 depending on the time it was made, there is this same design and also the non opening salon windows (frameless) and the port hole windows for the aft cabin. Which design do you have?

When they changed the windows, they changed the model #'s. The 355, was then a 356, and I am pretty sure the 405 went to a 406.The aft cabin windows were changed to porthole type. Anything with a 1998 HIN should be the old style. 1999 and up the new style.

No. If you will google 98 405s you will see both styles. Not all were 406's. I remember when looking at my boat I ran across both and it was the 1998's

Heres a couple examples.. A 98 405 with sliders.. http://www.idealyachts.net/carver-405-specs
And a 98 405 with fixed windows. https://dreamfindersrv.com/RV/2202485/details.htm

They changed this in 98 and did make 406's sometime in the run.

Just like cars, I am sure some were built in 98 as 99 models. I would bet a paycheck any of the ones with the port hole windows and solid surface counter tops were built near the end of 98 and marketed as 99 models.
Other than the windows and counters, they were identical.
