Has anyone used a generic oil to top up a QL (Volvo) bp800. My manual calls for a Volvo p/n 41100129 oil which is not readily available where I live.

It smells and looks like Auto transmission fluid. It is red and very light. Any advice would be appreciated. My location is Queensland Australia.... a long way from home!!

Go to the Volvo site, find their phone number, and call them. The last thing you want to do is pour the wrong oil in there.
This isn't one of those - if walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck - situations.

Thanks Waybomb
I've been to Volvo dealers and they have no oil.
I hate being held to ransom and having to pay transport cost that double the cost of a cup full of oil.
Volvo does not manufacture oil. They buy it, bottle it and charge four to five times their purchase price. The thing is that no one knows what the oil is that they buy. hence my question. Does anyone know what oil they bottle.
Thanks again Waybomb, but just check where I am...... not really Volvo country

I was suggesting calling the company Volvo, not a dealer.

It may take some doing, but you will eventually find somebody in engineering that can give you the oem of that oil, and from there you can cross it to almost any other lubrication marketer.

You may also try calling a small oil blender, such as Royal Purple, JAX, etc, and they may already have the data on that original oil.

BTW - yes, I did look up where you live. Zoomed in on all the channels. Didn't look like many of those docks had boats though!

The item in the link is the correct oil for QL (Volvo) Thrusters. We stock it, but we also have a lot of QL thrusters out there!

Wow...$60 for shipping a bit of oil! Let me know how that turns out. We are still snowed in up in the northern latitudes, but I want to bleed the thrusters and insure all is well once the weather clears. Would love to take a ride if we ever get your way...Aus. is on me bucket list!

Volvo stopped making the thruster oil #41100129 - just spoke to Volvo tech - IT IS PLAIN OLD 30W MOTOR OIL!!!!! Guess they figured out as customer learned this they cannot sell it for $60 per bottle.
