Can anyone tell me the model number or a source for this inline fuel pump? (I'll try to attach an image here too). Carver 350 Mariner. My engine started surging at all RPMs. Changed fuel filter and then had a hard time starting. When I turn key I hear the whine or the priming pump but suspected fuel starvation...Removed the hose at the engine and put it in a bottle, turned ignition key on and off about 10 times but barely any fuel getting from tank to bottle, so I assume the pump may be bad.

Related question, can I just put any 12V low pressure fuel pump in there and assume the ignition wiring is the same, or do I need to do some modifications?

That does not look factory to me judging by the wire ties and bad tape job....looks more like a regulator or shut off solenoid...hard to tell from the pic......anyone else ???

I agree... looks more like a fuel shutoff solenoid.

Have you checked the anti-siphon valves?? If they're stuck or clogged, an electric fuel pump will have a LOT of difficulty pulled gas though. A mechanical pump will too, but a mechanical pump can develop a lot more "suck" than an electrical pump.

Oh, and if that IS a fuel shutoff solenoid (valve) then it might have a screen on the inlet side that can get blocked up.

Not on my main engines, but on my genset, I had a lot of problems with my anti siphon valve. Replaced it and all was good.

Try replacing that with a barbed coupling and see what happens.....you can also watch what it does when you turn the key.....should be easy enough.....be careful with fuel in the bilge area though, be sure to ventilate well after any fittings are opened and do the sniff test to verify all is well before starting.

It could just be a device to reduce the chances of vapor lock.

As other have mentioned i don't think that is a fuel pump. Its either a shutoff valve or more likely a flow sensor to a floscan or similar fuel management system.

That is a floscan sensor, you could have a blockage there you could bypass it easily to check.

Thank you, that makes sense, I do have a flow scan. I’ll check anti siphon on the fuel system and see if there is a block there. Hoping it isn’t the fuel pump since it seems like getting at that cool fuel system in the bilge looks tough. I have a new elex fuel pump just in case, but wanted to rule out anything else first
