Generator Anode Change

I did my first generator service on my 1 year old to me 1998, 405 AC. The genny is a Kohler 10kw, model 10e gas burner. It’s always operated great. Sometimes it takes three tries to start it, but always starts. I figured probably needed plugs as to why it doesn’t start right away?

I ordered a maintenance kit from EBay and it came with:

Champion plugs
Fuel filter
Oil filter
Water pump belt
Slow burn fuses
Impeller (but was wrong impeller, I could have an after market pump housing??)
Anode

I changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, belt, plugs, & anode. Will have to wait until I get correct impeller then will change it.

Not sure what the deal was on the anode? The old anode brass fitting looked like it had been in and out multiple times? Maybe previous owner used same brass fitting but just put in new anode?? None the less here’s some pictures. Based on this I highly recommend checking the anode!!

The pics are rotated 90* clockwise. I’ve not figured out how to fix that yet!!

OR Sherwood 09000K
or Sierra 23-3303

PS, they sell just the anode itself and you can reuse the same fitting if you can get the remainder of the anode out of the threads. If you replace on a regular basis, the anode should unscrew from the fitting pretty easy. Having said that, it's best to simply replace the entire assembly after the fitting has been removed a few times.

Found the correct impeller - Kohler 25-0872; replaced by 229955. The pump is a Kohler 267373. Old School equipment.

Interesting, the Kohler model 10E should be impeller 229826. Unless there are other kits with the same impeller but include other gaskets, seals, etc.

Mine has 6 screws on the cover with a gasket, not an o-ring.

Here’s a link to what mine looks like:
