Greetings,

I have a 2005 Carver 36. I pulled out the TV in the Salon and in its place I put the electronics for my solar panels. I would like to build a door similar to the 120 and 12V panels doors on the same piece but I have not found the particular shade of stain Carver used. Does anyone know the name? Thanks!

Dan

I'm afraid you will have a tough time matching the the color of the interior wood in a Carver.
I say this because I watched an older video on Carver's website (https://itboat.com/shipyards/243-carver).
Before they stain and finish the wood they age the panels with ultraviolet light to prevent further fading over time.
The videos include some discussion regrading their wood shop activities.
It's a shame they went out of business.

Welcome to the forum.....if it turns out you can't find the exact match perhaps consider doing a complete complimentary contrast for that.

This the stain we used to redo our galley. 3 staining coats and 3 coats of satin clear.

To get a match is going to be difficult. You may want to build the door out of same wood type, and then bring that raw door to a wood shop that employs an expert staining person. Take a door off something else in the area, and instruct the shop to match the shade. OR, build the door out of dark plexi glass. That way you will have muted visibility to monitor lights for the electronics. I have used Interlux Sikkens products for stain. They have several shades. Most stores will have a few pieces of stained wood to demo the different shades applied. Good luck! 8-) er

I bought a 4x8 sheet of Cherry veneer to match the the wood type and got the cherry edge banding. I made up a test piece of wood with identical sanding and gave it to the paint store (Sherwin Williams) they got close to a good match to a cabinet door I gave them as a sample. I had to play with the length of time left on before wiping off. In the end remember that all the wood on the boat is a slightly different shade and close enough is great.
Good Luck!
