Google Johnson crank mount water pumps.
Those are good pumps and easy to work on. Carry a spare set of impellers with you though. If you're used to the ease of pulling into any marina and getting Merc parts off the shelf, impellers for these may not be as readily available as an in stock item. Having said that, everybody should have a spare set of impellers on board regardless of the engine/pump brand.
I'll also add that in my experience over the years, I have run into more shaft seal failures on this type of pump vs the hard to get at Merc pump. Given the higher ratio of the Merc pumps to other OEM crank mounts that are out there such as Volvo, Crusader, etc., it's a high failure rate in my books. None the less, I preffer the crank mount design and am planning on a retrofit myself. Not getting any younger and trying to get under the starb engine to replace an impeller is starting to get painfull.
