Boilermaker huh....fire up the tig/mig and get welding..... :-D

Heh have you considered boat wreckers, salvage yards boat yards that do refits etc to get the casting and assorted bits and pieces you need ? Ya never know what they have laying around out back....lots of boats get destroyed with these storms.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

The ad was from Volvo Penta website that has all the parts listed, except that thermostat housing. No replacement number no nothing. I think that I’m going to have to modify a Crusader or Mercruiser thermostat housing. I was just looking at my friend’s Mercruiser setup, and it’s quite different that the Volvo.
Anyone with any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Thanks Bud37, I’m afraid that here on Vancouver Island there are not a lot of “boat wrecking yards”, hard enough to find the right parts.

I’m thinking that I might be able to modify this Crusader cooling setup.

Post an engine serial and model number. I would only modify with another brand's hardware as the very last resort. There's nothing worse than being asked to repair something, looking up parts using the serial number and finding that the hardware is completely different. Now you have to find out what/who's hardware it is, the model used, etc. Something as simple as sourcing the t-stat can take you down a rabbit hole if it's not the OEM setup, not to mention it might affect troubleshooting and will certainly affect the ability to check if service bulletins apply to the hardware in question for that particular serial number. Let's see if we could do this right first.

Thanks Viper, I have tried to source the factory thermostat housing, but every website that I found that shows the housing, the housing seems to be no longer available. The housing shown in the first drawing is the perfect housing, but it doesn’t even list the housing part number. I’m at a loss as to where to go from here, except try and fabricate thermostat housings myself.
Thanks again for your help

Well, I'm trying to help but I need your help to do that. I need the engine model and serial number. Your vintage may be during the OMC/Volvo campaign, so you may be barking up the wrong tree and should be going to an OMC dealer instead. They may still be able to get that part even if it's no longer available through Volvo. Fords were also used in some applications so that's something you also want to consider and confirm before you try and retrofit a housing designed for a GM application.

You don't know what you don't know (neither do I), that's why it's important to start with a model and serial number and why I usually ask for them in spite of my experience. This isn't just for looking up parts, it's an essential part of the troubleshooting process and certainly required for checking service bulletins too. There may be a Volvo bulletin on this very thing that may point us in the right direction, or not, but we'll never know if we don't check.

Thanks Viper, the serial number on the engines are 4100136446 and 410036005 with a product number of 868539. I know that the long blocks were replaced about 5 years ago, so I don’t know if the serial numbers are from the original engines, or the new engines. I’ve tried to find the serial numbers on the new engines, but I can’t find the numbers on the blocks.

The numbers on the replacement long blocks are different than the numbers I identified on the paperwork that came with the boat. The numbers on the current engines are B052 and K291 with a product number 11014182. I don’t know what any of these numbers mean, or how to identify them.
If you can figure anything out for me Viper, it would be much appreciated!
