Anybody have any experience with buying parts through Napa for use on your boat? I recently did a major overhaul on a Sherwood P1014 raw water pump for my starboard Crusader. The original Crusader OEM # was P1012 the P1014 replaced that unit. I decided to try the rebuild kit through a marine supplier instead of a new purchase because they wanted $465 for a new pump and $90 for the kit. The rebuild is another story, but lets just say it did not go to well. So I am shopping for a new pump now. While at a Napa Parts I asked the manager if he could get new marine raw water pumps for Crusaders as they are GM engines. He responded that he did not know but took my contact info and said he would give it a try. Sure enough, he called me back and said it was available through Napa. He stated that it would take a couple days for shipping but that my cost would be $221 for a new unit. That's is a hell of a price break. It seems like a good deal, my concern is that automotive parts for marine use may not be to the same standard, however I haven't seen any 454's on the street with raw water pumps either. Looking for comment or personal experiences. Thanks

Are you talking raw water pump that draws water from the lake or circ pump on the front center of the engine for block circulation? Raw water pump has nothing to do with it being a GM, they are Marine OEM specific. The only thing you have to watch out for with an automotive circ pump is that ALL automotive circ pumps operate in coolant so their impeller is typically made of a cheaper material than marine applications that may operate in a raw water environment instead of coolant. So you may find stainless steel in a marine unit to prevent raw water corrosion versus a cheaper alloy in an automotive app that's always running coolant. Napa can get an aftermarket pump because there are aftermarket manufacturers that make the same pumps for Merc, Volvos, etc. They may simply be buying a unit from Sherwood (pump OEM) or Sierra and others for example.

Raw water Pump Viper. It pulls sea water in to cool the engine. Mounts to the front of the crusader on a bracket and is powered by a fan belt and pulley. I don't have fresh water cooled engines.

I thought that but the above statement made it a little confusing as the raw water pump has nothing to do with GM. On the other hand, the circ pump does.

Throw them out and put crank mount pumps on.Not only are they cheaper but they're easy to change impellers and no belt to worry about.I did my boat and several others and customers love 'em.

Where do you get them Throwback2? Any links?

Thanks Midnightsun, I'm not sure this is the right fit for my application. My Crusader is not fresh water cooled.
