Where are you located?

What sort of price were you given for a long block?

You don't need the whole engine, just a long block. The trailer boating magazines usually have ads from places that sell short blocks and long blocks. Don't just buy an automotive engine, get a marine clearanced engine. They run a bit looser. You'll probably have to pay the core charge because yours grenaded and is junk.

Buy a good high volume Melling oil pump as part of the rebuild.

well we got the new long block in and the dipstick for checking the oil is different
It came with a stamped sheet metal pan , like an auto engine ,the pan on the blown engine is cast aluminum.....I found a dipstick and tube that will clear the manifold ...will I encounter any problems leaving the stampped pan on the engine ,(save for rusting out years down the road) ?...........I sure dont want to pull the motor back out if I can help it
Oh by the way the cast aluminum oil pan got cracked when the engine blew up

I don't think you'll have a problem.
My Cougar has steel pans. Big ones, 14 quarts, but plain painted steel.

Make sure the dipstick goes to the bottom of the pan - do not overfill oil. Aerated oil is the death of an engine.

You really grenaded that engine, eh?

Hey thanks for the quick reply..
...I think its been damaged for a while and just took a little time to destroy iself....somthing got between the timing gears and broke the cam gear.....#8 piston hit the exhaust valve ...valve cap gone, bent pushrod, piston is completely gone ,hole in head. big hole in cylinder, cracked oil pan.....just a blue puff of smoke out of exhust pipe ,no smoke or smell in salon cabin.....weird....never had that happen before....but Im learning more than I ever thought about boat engines
