Any guess as to what transmission would be in a 1981 28' Mariner with twin inboard 305s? I cant make out anything on the tags.

Welcome to the forum....my guess if original.....Velvet drive....are the engines painted blue?
If you have a pic of the trans someone may be able to ID the specific model.

Pretty sure these are original equipment. The engines are painted blue. Can barely make out the 220 on valve cover. I'm going to run out to the marina today if I get a chance and do some more digging for name plates and snap some pictures.

Probably Borg Warner velvet drives 1.5 reduction V drives based on 220 hp.Crusader conversions.

Velvet Drive 1:1 ratio 71c is the answer.

Now to ID the V-Drives a little more specifically. I know they are Walters...but havent seen the tag on them yet. A little internet search tells me they are on the back side of the unit so reading it may be a challenge.

A bright light and a mirror may come in handy. Is there a short shaft going from the trans to the v drive gear case ?
The color in that pic does not seem to be the blue I was thinking.

Nope. No shaft. Here is a better pic of the rust and spaghetti under the hatch.

This boat has been sitting in the salt water with little to no use for over 4yrs I was told. We brought a bunch of tools, cooler, sleeping bags and a chase boat to rescue it and bring it back to the fresh water of the Sac Delta. Starboard motor wasnt running properly, later determined to be severely retarded ign timing. We have it running pretty well on both motors now.
Going to make a great Delta/Bay beater.

Ya that's a Walter without a jackshaft.
