I am going to upgrade the temp gauges on my 1994 7.4 closed cooled Bluewater 7.4. I saw two sanders coming out of the tstat housing. WHich is teh sender for gauge? The one facing FWD or the one facing AFT?

Thanks!

Not sure. When the engines are warmed up, just turn the key to 'on' and disconnect one at a time and see which one affects the gauge.

Use a jumper lead from ground and touch it to the sender wire on each one with the key on. The one that makes the gauge jump all the way up is the one to your gauge and hence the sender you are looking for.

UPDATE: I found VDO close to what I have, bought them and teh senders. Installed. Haven’t gone out yet, but now at idle, they sit just around 160. Used the infrared thermometer, and housings show 162ish to 163. Sea trial to come.
