Question about fuel delivery

1996 380 Santego with Crusader 454 XL carbureted.

With the fuel valve in the on position and the fuel filter removed should fuel flow via gravity and help fill the filter?
I’m having issues on the starboard side and no fuel flow to the filter.. my Port side has constant flow that would easily fill & prime the filter???

I thought I had a fuel pump issue on starboard and was getting ready to replace it but decided to change the port side filter and ohm out both pumps… that’s when I discovered the fuel flow which I don’t have on the starboard side …. Obviously this bat is new to me and I’m no mechanic… I’m “learning “ thanks so much for your help!!

If you are talking about fuel flow from the tank to the filter....the anti syphon valve at the tank should be stopping free flow from the tank to the filter if the filter is below the tank level.

That valve is in the fuel line fitting at the tank........should be one on both tanks....perhaps the port side one was removed or is stuck open. They are designed to open on fuel pump suction only and prevent syphon action in case of a fuel line rupture etc.

Update , thanks to everyone the antisyphon valve is replaced. I now know how to prime my fuel system both manually and by turning the me while in forward so the engine doesn’t start but the system primes . The fuel pump is actually working even though the resistance is dramatically different… I’m told it’s possible to have intermittent failure on those … I had the issue prior to changing the fuel filter or screwing around with the pump so we shall see . I kept the new pump just in case but she is running well now. I’ll move on a tune up plugs , caps , rotors etc I’m sure I’ll be asking questions if I run into trouble setting the timing ;). This forum really is great! Thanks

I actually had to take my anti siphon valves out and clean them with degreaser. Had the same issues not able to get fuel to the filters. No problems since. There is a painful thread in here somewhere that got me to that answer. If you want to read, it is 7 pages of great help and troubleshooting by many in this great group.
