Hi, I have the chance to use a Mercruiser computer to check one of my engines for a few days but I can't locate the right connector on the engine. The only connector I found is near the distributor and it doesn't match the Mercruiser connector.
first photo is the Mercruiser adaptor and 2nd and 3rd are from my engine
I own a 2000 350 Mariner with 7.4 mpi

You have the wrong adaptor for that vintage engine.

To add to Vipers post.

Pretty sure the purple stuff is for Smartcraft equipped engines. Your connector says you do not have smartcraft and need another type of connector.

Welcome to the forum......google rinda diacom tecnologies 94005 GM mefi 1-4 adaptor......that may be the correct one, check it out....needs pins.

To add, by the look of the tape to me, someone has been in there perhaps.

Just a thought here... I purchased the Rinda software https://www.rinda.com/marine/diacommarine.htm and the diagnostic connector for my 454's and look at it when trouble comes up. But I also put in the Fox Marine Mefi 3 Engine gateways https://fox-marine.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=81 that are on my NEMA 2000 network, and the data shows up on my Engines tab on my Garmin 8612. The gateways are not that much $$, and it displays quite a bit of data on Mefi 3. They also have a phone app you can access the data on your phone via Bluetooth. Just food for thought.

I googled but all the adapters related to MEFI-1 to 4 are ok for my engine connector but at the other end they have a round one

Thank you. It gives no choice to buy Diacom adapter and cable "gateway". I found this (see photo). It is really the one I need. Had to search a loooot.

Good stuff....Thats the trouble, they all seem to trap you into getting their line of overpriced adapters don't they, different connecters to do the exactly the same job imo ....

The one thing about rinda, they have quite a history with gm ecm interfaces etc.
