I am making a a deposit on a 2004 36 Mariner this week. I'd like to do engine oil and transmission oil samples. Is the Transmission fill tube easily accessible or do I need to have the marina do it?

Accessible? Yes. Easily, probably not but if the marina guy can do it, most owners can as well.

You can do almost anything on that boat.
Open every hatch, every cover and explore. Write down the model numbers of everything you find. You'll be happy you did.

Absolutely. Find all through hulls and strainers, and figure out what each one is used for. Find all bilge pumps and make sure they are in good operational condition. Find your sump pumps and FYI, they probably need good cleaning. Find your AC water pump. Find your onboard water system pump.
Just a head’s up…Carver is famous for putting bilge access ports in hidden, out of the way places, inside cabinets, under stairs, under carpeting, etc. I’ve had my boat for 7 years and just a few weeks ago, I found a couple openings I didn’t know I had.

Check the stairs going down into the salon from the back deck, i believe they lift and you will see the dipsticks for the v drives quite easily thru there. Whilst at it , on those boats check the v drive for any evidence of the output shaft seal leaking . Good luck with your survey.
