Stuffing boxes are dripping, what size packing? Adjusting nut, RH or LH threads? Gave it a halfhearted try but lock nut didn't move. PB Blaster time or is there another way?
Thanks,
Bob

What kind of wrenches are you using? I bought the ones below at home depot and they worked great. You could add a section of pipe to get more leverage. You can also look at the actual threads to see if you're going the right direction (even stick a phone down there to get a picture or video close-up).

Looks like a great tool. The boat is a V-drive, can barely get a wrench on the nut, much less a pipe extension. Butit looks like it would get a much better grip than the tool I have. Thanks.

When you wrote 'lock nut', did you mean the large one or the thinner one?

FWIW, if you expect to do this more than one time, buy a wrench that fits, not an adjustable one. While pipe wrenches are better than the chrome adjustable ones, a wrench that fits is best. You shouldn't need a SnapOn or other expensive brand, but it needs to be able to avoid flaring at the end. The one that holds the other nut can be adjustable because it's just holding it in place, but I always preferred wrenches that weren't adjustable. YMMV.
