Intro and possibly important news

Postby Pdbuck » June 11th, 2021, 8:12 am

Hey all,

Thanks for the approve for membership here!
My fiancé and I are liveaboards on Lake Ontario for five years now on an 89 carver aft 3607 (Aqualibrium). Love the way of life and wish I’d discovered it years ago. Looking forward to learning and sharing more with those in same boat as we are!

That being said, I just yesterday ran into a seemingly rather important bit of news I’d think prudent to share with all. I just got this info from an alternate Carver group member who shared it with all. I personally haven’t had occasion to call Pat at Carver yet but any needing Carver related services of this type may want to expedite, esp for manuals and the like.

“Pat at Carver (920) 822-7227
If you need information on where replacement parts can be found you should call him immediately. His last Day is June 25th. He does not believe the database will be made public or available past that date.
If you have never called him be sure to have your hull # before you call.”

“He has been a great resource and it is a shame that his data base is not going to be maintained.”

“If you have high level contacts at Carver as some have indicated please ask them if there is anyway that this database can be made public to the Carver group or placed under the care of a single entity.”

Yea, I used to have a high level contact, owner of Cruisers, but that lost it's effectiveness when Marinemax bought the whole shebang. My attempt to get that history and file failed due to proprietary/privacy issues. The whole issue is not totally lost. There may be some legacy info available for Carver owners, but not as robust as current. We still have to realize the effectiveness of this forum, with over 7000 members, plus Viper. Let's strive to keep participation active! 8-) er

I'm still a little confused. IIRC, when Cruisers made their purchase, it was for the facility for none of the Carver/Marquis IP or stock, implying that the Carver/Marquis brands could be resurrected by whoever still owned them. Then MarineMax bought Cruisers. Doesn't that still leave the Carver IP with the former owners?

Welcome aboard, and the news is/was expected. It's all about profit and added value now. Customer service is not generally considered added value.
Thanks

Ya I heard about this yesterday. Hopefully it's not as bad as it seems and there'll be a work around. Going to miss Pat, what a shame. Hoping that he'll pop up somewhere else in the where he can continue to benefit all of us with his knowledge.

Thanks for the kind words Cooler. Hey, we're all in it together. Together we are way more knowledgeable than any one person.
