UPDATE.

Jabsco has changed/discontinued things over the years. The spotlight that has a dual switch for flood or spot only exists on the much larger version they offer along with the fancy controller that was once on the smaller model like I have on my boat. Ended up returning the unit since it was way too big to fit the original area and the mounting holes were way off. This is what I ordered initially, looks the same and the controller is the same as on my boat. $600 US by the way. :-O

Ended up buying a knock off unit that luckily has the same footprint and therefor the mounting holes match perfectly. Paid $139CAD for the unit and may use the supplied controller that comes with it. I say may because if it does not cover up the existing holes when the original is removed I will keep the original. Only downside to the controller I can see is one would not know if it is on or off. Then again one is supposed to keep the spotlight pointed towards the rear of the boat as one can now see if it is inadvertently left on. The controller has a soft greenish backlight glow which is really nice and will come in handy.

I will use the existing wiring as it would be impossible to replace with the new not to mention the new wiring would not be long enough anyway. Will need to splice the old connector onto the new wiring which is not difficult at all. The 4 small wires are for rotation and up down movement the thick black is ground and the remaining 2 are positives for spot or flood selection. Since this new light only offers on or off I will simply tie the flood/spot wires together which will also ensure the wire will easily handle the increased wattage from 50w to 100 on the new light.

Did a quick bench test of the unit which worked very well.

Here is a comparison of the new and old light. As can be seen it is difficult to tell them apart. Several hundred dollars cheaper than the Jabsco unit, nicer controller and double the light output. The photo may look like there is a size difference however they are really identical in every way.

Small wiring update.

The 4 smaller control wires are almost all the same color as the Jabsco unit.

The yellow and blue wires of the new unit go to the yellow and blue wires of the Jabsco harness which controls rotation

The green wire goes to the green wire, the beige colored wire on the new unit goes to the brown wire on the Jabsco harness which controls the up down movement.

Finally the larger red wire on the new unit will use 2 wires from the harness, the orange and grey, both twisted together and connected to the red. The Grey wire on the new unit goes to the black wire of the Jabsco harness.

Got everything installed and must say all went as planned. Mounting holes for the spotlight are identical to the original Jabsco and the unit works as advertised using the existing wiring as I previously explained.

I elected to replace the original dash mounted control with the one I got with the new spotlight as it looks better and makes more sense to operate. As can be seen, Carver must have given a rotozip to some kid when the cut the hole out for the remote at the factory. Luckily there were a couple of millimetres to hide the hole once the new control was installed. I did need to install a back plate to accommodate the fastener locations on the new remote as the screws were in the void. Used a 4" x 4" stainless plate stuck on to the backside with 5200 in which I drilled a centre hole for the wiring and the 2 mounting holes for the new unit.

Only drawback is there is no way to know if the unit is powered on or not and it could easily be turned on when cleaning as just a light press of the on button is all it takes to fire her up. I know many point the spotlight towards the helm just for this purpose but I do have a miniature blue led left over from another project which can easily be tied into the power wires going to the spotlight. Hmmm, another mini project I guess. :-D

The blue light on top would be smart, as we keep it faced towards us to make sure it's off.
