well if the rotation was counter clockwise I would have done the last 1000 miles going backwards! Yes I removed the Volvo out-drive and replaced with a gen 2, the drive is all rebuilt and all bellows / bearings are new last year. it looks ugly because it has Mercruiser anti fowling paint on it and i did not get to do the bottom paint last year, the boat is off the trailer now for that reason, has about 20 coats of bottom paint that seems to come off easy , I think first coat was put on a new hull that received no prep!

Pics of hull getting outdrive in my thread "small boat big big project"

Tom I just realized you are from the upper Chesapeake Bay, that is where My Carver is from, I picked up the boat at a marina in Chesapeake City! two years ago, her name was "The Chesapeake Sneak', bad name. Pics on my other thread, small boat big big project.

Wrote a response to Vipers and your post, It disappeared when I it submit, if it does not appear later I will re-write it later!

Well, if true, then THAT would certainly explain the handling and wander issues!!!

The drive is labeled that it's counter clockwise. Has that been changed and the label is wrong? If so, you may want to change the label as that might throw someone off in a future repair.

I asked about gimbal bearing replacement because I still see the grease nipple on the side of the transom assembly and Merc stopped supplying the greasable bearings ages ago. The new bearings are supplied with a plug to replace the grease nipple.

Viper as you say the New Merc bearing is non greasable, that is what I installed, however other brands have the hole and I will replace this bearing with a greasable bearing when I replace this one, thus the zerk remains!

I must say you guys pay attention to the details good catch on the zerk! :-D
