Carver name plate

Postby nightsky » May 7th, 2017, 10:09 pm

Does anyone know how the nameplates are attached? I want to take mine off to refinish them but dont want to damage them in the process. Any help is appreciated.

I've never taken any off but I have seen replacements from Carver that were simply peel and stick.

Mine is a cast metal with a chrome finish which is bubbling and looks like crap. There are 3 of them on the boat all in about the same condition. The "390" appears to be made of SS and are in excellent condition. Too bad they didn't do the same with the "Carver".

Maybe someone who's had them off on the same model year will chime in. You can also give Carver a call, they're very helpful.

Are you referring to the "CARVER" plastic badge/nameplate, or the HIN nameplate on the transom? You can move the CARVER nameplate with dental floss, clean it up, and then glue it back down. Dental floss is a little body-shop secret they use to remove badges and nameplates. Just pull the floss back and forth under the badge until it comes off. There may be some adhesive left that you can clean off with some WD40 or GooGone.

I would be careful removing the HIN nameplate, because they are hard to replace and you don't want the boat to look like the HIN plate is not original.

Thanks splashy. I was referring to the "CARVER" name plate. Assumed they were made of metal. Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

Thanks all. They were attached with an adhesive that was fairly easy to remove. I think I will give them a different "look " before putting them back on.

I took the cast aluminum nameplates in to get them "dusted" with a sandblaster to remove the old paint and bubbling chrome plating. The sandblasting has exposed some pitting in the metal, to the point where there are a few perforations in 2 of the nameplates. All the nameplates have pitting. I am looking for ideas on how to finish these before mounting them back on the boat. I will have to fill the perforations and I will have to decide whether to leave the pitting for effect, or whether to fill and smooth. I will prime with zinc chromate, and then have to decide on a color palette. Originals were grey background with chrome plated raised letters, mounted against a Carver Green background/shadow decal. One thought was to keep the grey background and paint the raised letters Carver Green (to match bimini canvas). This would necessitate removing the shadow decal as it would "blur" the lettering when viewed from a distance. I am open to ideas though.

I went thru all 13 pages of his online store and didn't see any. He seemed to have quite a bit of Chris Craft stuff though.
