fuel fill cap orings

Postby jcoll » August 22nd, 2017, 7:33 pm

Does anyone have a source for replacement fuel cap O-rings? All I can find is the complete cap. I'd like to replace them as a maintenance item.

I don't know how well just any o-ring will stand up to fuel. I'm pretty sure Perko has a selection of o-rings for the caps they supply though.

The common o-ring such as those found on the gas caps are just Buna-N 70. Personally I always replaced them with Viton material (brown in color) which is a much higher quality. That being said, look up your local industrial hydraulic seal place which will carry any size you want at a fraction of the cost. Just bring in the old one and they will measure it for you. O-rings like these are worth a few pennies however are commonly sold in hardware stores or as parts directly from the manufacturer such as Perko for several dollars. While you are there, bring in a sample of the waste cap and water cap 0-rings and get a few of those also. ;-)
Cheers, Hans
