Xtra battery

Postby pepmyster » October 15th, 2018, 5:51 am

Hi members! Just winterized our boat, did all the ususal stuff, removed all 7 batteries. There was one, which I'm not sure what it does, It has, from the factory wiring saying "xtra battery". Anyone know what this is used for. Don't believe it is for the house system. Thanks.

Not sure what it is for but here is my list. (1) engine, (2) engine, (3) generator, (4) bow thruster, (5) stern thruster, (6&7) house bank. Somewhere in all this the windlass is connected and I suspect the bow thruster battery.

Oddly enough my engine battery and thruster battery are connected together in parallel to form a bank and cannot be disconnected. They do have separate on/off switches so I can dial off engine or thruster.

Technically I have 4 batteries 1) engine/thruster bank, 2x group 31 12v, 2) engine/thruster bank, 2x group 31 12v 3) generator 1x group 24 12v 4) house bank 2x L16 trojan 6v in series. The house bank is not stock as it did come with dual group 31 12v and the original generator battery was a group 31 12v

True, I tried to do the thruster while it was disconnected and it still worked, Just couldn't pin it down what it is for. I don't believe it is for the house though.

I believe the thruster is on the motor batteries. I have 4 house , 1 gen, 1 port , 1starboard. It's this one called xtra that has me a bit stumped. I left the boat on dry dock for about 15 hours, the houses were where I believe they would be and the xtra did not change. Gotta figure this out. Nothing in the owners manual about this.

Has there been a recent large electronics install or upgrade? Some folks have been installing a dedicated bank for electronics. Is there a small inverter mounted anywhere?

Contact Carver and ask what that option was for. Curious.
