I have an 83 3607 as well. Do you have a generator? Is that silver thing the muffler for it?

Re: What Is This Thing???
"Looks like a few old ones down there, or is that the same one in both pics.....what are you thinking to do ? Maybe on the list next haulout, bottom job?"
Just the one, I was showing its location. I need to haulout sometime in the next few months and replace the exhaust pipe (tube?)... exhaust thing with date on it. The starboard side was replaced, but the port was not and I'm getting drips coming in - the date on that tube is a lot older than the starboard one.
"Before it starts leaking, remove it, remove the wood backer plate, and have a fiberglass tech patch the hole properly"
This was a curiosity... when the wood rots through can it leak?
"It looks like there is a tightening nut on a threaded shaft there which shoot-thru-the-hull types don't have."
So maybe it won't leak if the wood rots?
"I have an 83 3607 as well. Do you have a generator? Is that silver thing the muffler for it?"
Yes - that is the muffler for the generator.
Thanks for the info - your answers have given me a great place to start researching. The boat is only a few months old to me and I'm about to dive it and clean it for the first time. If it goes through maybe I'll be able to tell from underneath. I'll follow up on this thread if I find something out that's interesting.
Thanks again.

Re: What Is This Thing???
The nut is what's fastening the ducer to the hull. When a backer plate rots, the whole assembly becomes loose and allows movement. Eventually the movement causes the seal to fail and leak.fleck05 wrote:Source of the post.... when the wood rots through can it leak?
