80's Mariner Engine Room

80's Mariner Engine Room

All, I've been having an issue with my CO2 alarm going off since installing my generator that I want to see if anyone has any pointers on.

Since my boat didn't have a generator originally I wonder if my boat might be different in some way, what I'm finding is that heat, and I'm sure fumes, are entering my cabin around the rear salon panels because the bottom of this area of the structure is "open". Can anyone with a Mariner comment on the factory insulation that might have been used in this area?

Should not have fumes in the engine room! If you have fumes, you must have some sort of a leak.
Are your bilge fans all hosed to the bottom of the bilge?
On my 3697, the genny is on the port side, and the vents on the port side point forward.
The vents on the starboard side point rearward.

Fred, you are absolutely correct- fumes might have been the wrong word.... I can tell you that I can hear the generator through the gap in that panel "corner" that I mentioned, and feel the heat of the engine compartment after a main engine run of decent length.

I'll check my vent directions but this is happening when we are anchored out with the cabin door closed and with or without a breeze and my blowers are hosed to bottom, one in center and behind starboard engine. I wanted to start by finding about whether or not that area (behind the steps to the upper deck) should be insulated or not.

If you have installed the genny with exhaust and a muffler where did you put the exhaust exit? If its near your engine room vents there is a good chance the genny air intake is drawing the fumes back into the boat. As for noise, my 355 has the kohler with the complete sound shield enclosure, and it is still noisy, so no way around that one.

Theres a couple at my marina with a 3397, maybe I'll ask them if I can look at how there boat was insulated. Sorry I wasn't more clear with my question.
