Composting Toilet Installation.

Postby Craig_B » July 22nd, 2019, 12:59 pm

If anyone is interested we removed our old sewage holding tank and hoses and replaced them with a composting toilet from AirHead. Everything was leaking and smelled aweful.

Pictures of the process can be found here:

Here is a picture of the finished product. Image

No more pump outs. No more smell. Recreational usage only has to be emptied once at the beginning of the season.

It looks good, let us know how it works out for you. For me, I would fill that liquids tank in one night if I was drinking beer and then have no where to go with it. Dumping over the side is the same as direct discharge and is illegal unless offshore.

You might be surprised at its capacity. The wife and I pounded back a Ton of drinks in celebration of the end of that nasty task. Up till about 3am. :drunk: :: (Getting to old for the resulting massive hangover).

Also we have two spare containers that have sealing lids, in case we do fill one and we are not near a toilet for disposal.

If your floating around in the water all day having a good time drinking some beers or whatever I figure most everyone is direct discharging in the lake don't see anybody getting out of the water to go in the boat to use the head, so I guess a lot of us are illegal dumping

But seriously, we very seldom add any "solids" to our tanks unless its an emergency. Even so, try telling the USCG you have one head discharging because you only pee in that one and the other goes to holding in case of solids. Either way you are direct discharging and could be fined.

Not sure if I am following correctly but we only have the one head. It takes both liquid and solid deposits. Seperates the fluid from the solid. Stores the liquid for disposal and composts the solids.
So nothing illegal at all with this installation in fact is is certified by the US coast guard for marine use.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply your install was illegal. It seems just fine.
Just pointing out that yes, you can pee in the water without being fined, but you cant pee in your boat head and discharge it overboard without it being illegal. :beergood:
