Gel Coat color?

Postby Carpe Diem » September 10th, 2021, 5:47 pm

Does anyone happen to know what the gel coat color name is for the 2000 vintage 506s. Did carver use a generic white or some specific color that needs matching. I have several chips and holes to fill and want a pretty close match if possible.
Thanks
I found an out fit that sells a gelcoat repair kit with several pigment colors to use to custom match but I would like to avoid that if possible. Was there a way to match the paint based on HIN at some point?

Unfortunately a 21 year old boat will not match a factory color gelcoat. You will be extremely disappointed if you try, been there done that. The gelcoat tends to change color with time due to UV, light exposure not to mention age. Best bet is to get a recommended local fibreglass specialist who can most likely match the color buy mixing to suit.

Yes , you would be extremely lucky to get a match in a tube even if you were to get the original colour. Matching white is quite an art with so many shades available. I had some original Carver gel from the factory for repairs on our boat, it was ok for tiny little repairs but the colour was only a close match for anything larger in the sunlight.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Spectrum Color is who you want to contact.... https://spectrumcolor-com.3dcartstores.com/
They should be able to get you the OEM original color by make/model/year. I don't member if they require the hull number or not. The guys are right though, you might get the correct OEM original but the chances of it matching years later is slim.

Thanks for the replies, I actually used to be a tub repair specialist in another life and had to color match gelcoat for bathroom fixtures. It is definitely an art. I have such a large area to make multiple repairs to so I will be overlaying the area with a new non-skid section. I'll post the results.
Cheers
