Deep Cycle vs Starting

Postby DanM » July 28th, 2023, 12:32 pm

I have seen Carver use all group 31 deep cycle batteries (except for the generator) on their gas engines models, mine included. Two of them are used for engine starting and two are for the house. Anyone know why they used all DC's?

Not sure why yours are Deep Cycle as mine are group 31 starting for the engines, thrusters and Generator. 1000cca to be precise. House bank, not sure what Carver used but must assume deep cycle for those.

Don't know if that was Carver, maybe a previous owner though. Typically they wired in two banks, a house bank for deep cycles batts and a start bank for engine starting batteries. Which bank you started the engines off of depended on the position of the battery selector switch if that was the option. Either way, they should have been supplied with the two types of batteries unless the dealership got lazy that day when getting the boat ready for delivery.
