- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hi y'all,
My name is Steve from Vancouver BC. If you ever get up this way, please look me up. I'll teach you how not to fish, and I make a helluva Margarita!
I am a brand new member and looking forward to getting to know some of you folks and benefitting from your collective wisdom. To that end, following is my first plea for help!
I am the proud owner of a 1981 3077 Carver aft Cabin. My windlass is shot, in terms of properly raising and lowering the anchor. My mechanic says I need a new "clutch cone", whatever the heck that is. The problem now is we cannot figure out the windlass manufacturer (can't find on windlass or anywhere in my boat literature) and thus no part number. Can any of you wonderful people provide any insights, and/or direct me to the "proper" forum where I would seek assistance on this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds and can help me get started!

View the latest post 330 Mariner windshield removal
- Posted by: mwest74 » May 15th, 2018, 9:17 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Greetings all.
I need some help with possibly removing the windshield on my 1995 330 Mariner for transport. If my math is correct, The height is about 13'7" from the keel to the tallest part. Most over the road transporters the height down to a least 12'7". The transport can still be done but, it requires extra permits. I'm looking to save as much as I can due to some very costly repairs. So, my question is this: Can I easily remove the windshield myself? Or, should I just bite the bullet and get the extra permits? I'd like to think I'm pretty mechanically inclined. So, I'm not opposed to doing it myself. I just don't want to bite off more than I can chew. As far as paying the yard to do it, I've given them enough money
Thanks in advance.

I have a small section of bow railing that I would like to replace. It should not be difficult to do, but I need to know what to ask for in my search for tubeing. It's 1in OD but what is wall thickness and type stainless steel? Also where to get an inside coupling/splice?

Greetings and thank you for letting me join Carver Yacht Owners. Just closed on my 2004 360 Super Sport today! My wife (Kim) and I have been boaters for many, many years but this is our first Carver. We are thrilled to get her and can't wait for delivery this weekend. I look forward to learning from each of you and to lots of fun and sun on the water! Cheers!

View the latest post Charging 12V house batteries underway
- Posted by: Trixboat » May 14th, 2018, 5:08 pm
- Forum: Electrical
Still trying to fully understand DC electrical system on new to us 560 Voyager.
It's my understanding that the 12V house batteries are not charged by the 24V engine electrical system. Thus, we must run the generator to charge house batteries while at sea. This to avoid deep discharge of house batteries from inverter run fridge and freezer. Do I have this right?
It seems like we could install a 24V to 12V transformer (some online retailers call it a converter) so the house batteries are charged when underway. The transformer would need to be disconnected when we are at rest (no shore power). Maybe there are transformers that are smart enough to disconnect when 24V system not getting charged.
TIA for your thoughts and advice!

We are new "junior" partners in 2005 560 Voyager Skylounge. As the junior partner, I pay less, work more.
We are lifetime boaters at Lake Powell and San Diego. The Captain is reluctant to chat on forums, so as an everyday RV and boat forums visitor, I'm charged with Carver inquiries and discussions. Looking forward to learning and sharing experiences.

- Posted by: SanJuanDreamer » May 14th, 2018, 4:00 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Well, it seems San Juan Dreamer is due for a repower.
She has 1510hrs on both motors and port motor has a serious miss.
Shop says #4 cylinder is not holding compression.
Blue smoke and gas smell is strong.
Oil pressure good on both motors at the lower rpms, but after coming down from plane, oil pressure drops extremely low, like in 5lb area until oil cools, then it’s back to 40lb
Anyone have experienced insight you could offer?
I don’t have time to do it, I’ll be asking a shop to do it…

Looks like you can wire brush the hull anode and get at least one more season out of it.
Determine it is zinc, aluminum or magnesium. If its zinc you may want to replace it with the others as they should all be the same.
I am in mostly fresh water but often travel into brackish water. I use aluminum anodes.

After what seems like an especially long hard winter here in Middle Tennessee ( I know, I know, it's fairly mild to many, but every region is accustomed to their winter....) It finally came together. I made it to the boat, fired up the genny (little leak in the strainer gasket, fixed) fired up the mains, (no problems there!) commissioned the water system, (leak in the shower... still there) commissioned the Purasan ( yup, clogged up orifice, same every year) While I was doing all that, Elaine was cleaning all the pollen off, and removing the isinglass from the helm. We slipped the lines, and headed down the creek (Drakes creek) to the river (Cumberland River, Old Hickory Lake) A mile or so down the creek, and several miles up the river,. Up on plane, gonna have to clean the bottom. (spilled the dishwater out of the sink, whoops) Back down the river, anchored out in a cove, had our dinner and a beverage or two. Elaine swam, it was cool, that coolness that you get in and then get used to. Several people tubing and sking. I laid on the newly cushy swim platform and took a nap.
It was a good day.

My factory president depth finder readout quit working. Just wondering if anyone knows of a replacement for the president readout that works with the factory sounder? Thanks
