Our 3867 Santego, Escape Plan, will cruise at WOT with a clean bottom at about 23-24 knots when all trimmed out, so she's no speed demon. but boy does she love to drink the fuel at that speed...about .5 miles to the gallon.I typically cruise on plane around 18-20 knots at around 3300 rpm. At around 7-8 knots I hardly leave any wake and will get just a hair above 1 mile to the gallon.
At 44 feet she's a heavy boat for gas engines and she would have been more fuel efficient with diesels, which Carver offered as an option beginning in 91, but I've never found one with diesels. That would be the only thing I would change, (switch to diesels) if I could afford to make the change and who knows, if I ever have to repower I might just bite the bullet. I have the Crusader Model 350, 454's engines, with velvet transmissions and Walter V-drives.
Here's a web link to the spec's on the 1990 Carver Santego for you. https://carveryachts.blob.core.windows. ... ego_90.pdf

Re: New boat purchase
A couple years ago Galahad bought two marinas in northeast. McDaniels and Jacksons. They had big plans to improve and expand. Both marinas are currently a shadow of their former selves, with a rotating door of employees. I believe Galahad has over extended themselves. If you have any say in where the work is done, look back at a previous post of mine on this thread for recommendations.

After you identified it as the 3867 model I located a youtube video about one in North Miami that showed a good walk thru. I'm really looking forward to Saturday.
Thanks for you help and info.
So are they putting you off ??.....If it were me I would want to just see the boat, crawl around and go from there now, maybe you will find it is not for you and get it over with.....there should be no reason you can't see the boat before this move for engine work, which by the way can be done easily on that boat in the water, so long as the people that do the job are competent in completing all the aspects of the job correctly,.....not just simply changing the engine......good luck man whatever way it goes........

tomschauer wrote:Source of the post Latestarter, not sure what going on there, but if the boat is at Charlestown Marina and they are moving it to Galahad, its a 10 minute move. Galahad (formerly Jacksons Marine) is directly across the northeast river, less than a mile.

Thanks for the input. I am trying to contact the seller to see why he chose them to do the work and when he is moving the boat.

I don't know why I'm being put off until Monday, unless the seller is not going to be available because of the move. I had put in an offer on a boat in Florida that looked great in pictures and was supposed to be in perfect mechanical condition. The board's price was good & the offer was subject to a survey and trisl. When the offer was submitted, the seller revealed that the boat couldn't be sea trailer due to carburetor problems. Needless to say I withdrew the offer.
I' going to see if the seller will let me crawl around this weekend even without him there.

tomschauer wrote:Source of the post The owner of Charlestown marina can be a real D%#k. If the boats owner complained about the delay of installing a new engine, the marina owner may have given him 7 days to get out. He's like that. I wouldn't get near the boat without the owner if its at that marina.
Seller told me that he had given Charlestown an ultimatum because of all the delays. He claims to have lost a couple of buyers due to the need to install the engine that has been sitting at Charlestown.

Re: New boat purchase
Maybe make arrangements to look it over, and if it something you're interested in, call Tolchester and ask for a top end price to supply and install a 454 and deduct that from your offer.
I always liked the 38 santego, good luck!
