Zinc Anodes

Postby ehschneider » March 11th, 2023, 11:19 am

Does anyone know how many anodes my Mariner has. I see one big one on the hull stern and one on each shaft and on the trim tabs, Anymore I missing???

What size are they? Is there a simple directory that lists them with sizing for a vessel? My boat is in storage 3 hrs from here and I wanted to order them.

2006 Mariner. THANKS!!

Heh there...what engine package, salt water or fresh ? Need to know shaft size.

My 01 had one on each shaft, one on each trim tab and the divers dream type plate on the transom.....the balance of the fittings were all bonded.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

That's all I have on my 330 Mariner. The anodes for the shafts depend on your shaft size. My shafts are 1.25", so I would estimate yours to be 1.5", but check your specs for sure. Good luck! 8-) er

Hmmm, have I missed this one? Both my Side Power brand stern and bow thrusters have composite props so I assume they have no anodes?? https://www.getaprop.com/bow-thruster-p ... -propeller

Hans, your Side Powers should have anodes on them, it's not the props you're protecting, it's the leg. You Can get them from Imtra or Martyr also makes anodes that fit them at a much lower price. Are you running mags or aluminum? I don't think they're available in mag from the OEM and I'm not 100% sure but I don't think Martyr makes them in mags either.

See "https://performancemetals.com/pages/sacrificial-anodes-faqs" for a good explanation. If you are unfamiliar with anodic protection usage, you also have pencil anodes in your engine coolers, consult your manual for locations.

Your shaft is probably 1-3/8, but measure. Your hull is 6x12 and the rudders are usually 3".

I go to Performance Metals for my anodes because their pencils (cooler) anodes have a steel rod in the middle to prevent aluminum from breaking off inside the cooler. They say they don't sell direct, but call them and they usually will.

Hi there. I have a 2005 Mariner with 6.0 Captains Choice gas engines. Here is the 'low-down' on my zincs.
a. 1 1/2" shaft zincs. I tend to 'over zinc' because of stray current in my marina so I have 2 on each shaft.
b. Block zinc on the stern. The bolt holes are 5" apart. Be sure that below, in the most stern engine room where the green bonding wires terminate; the nuts are well tightened. Also, make sure the bolts coming through the boat to the zinc shaft are also tightened. My were not and caused some slight issues.
c. I have a 5" disc zinc on each trim tab
d. 1/4" pencil zincs in the engine heat exchangers and on the generator if so equipped.
e. Bow thruster zinc. Round 'button' that is affixed to center of propeller.
That's it. If you have questions on your vessel please feel free to ask. I am pretty familiar with the boat. They are great and your friends are gonna love it.
