Viper.... Specifically I have been looking at Starboard AS which is their Anti-Skid product. According to King Plastics website it is used for stairs, decking, swim platforms etc. Have you had any experience with this area of their product line?

The challenge if I end up going this route is finding a supplier at retail.... no luck so far. Their Ontario distributor is Peidmont Plastics in Scarborough and the have supplied very little of this product.

Cheers

Peidmont can get it but they usually require an order for a whole 4x8 sheet. Big $$$ for the sheet and shipping. I've used AS in black before for a set of steps to a flybridge. Pretty sure I got it from Peidmont. It was an off-cut they had lying around. It was just big enough for my needs.

That is pretty much the story I got from them plus the lead time is 8 to 10 weeks.

I am also working an angle through Marine Outfitters in Kingston. Their distributor for this product is callled Taco.... still waiting to hear back. I have seen it in the US in 12 X 54 panels.... Its putting my old purchasing skills from the past to the test..... :beergood:

Yep, forgot to mention that part. You could also try calling some marinas, you never know. You may pay a premium but you'd get it right away if you're lucky enough to find someone who has it in stock.

Yes Taco Marine carry's it too but last I checked, it was special order from every distributor I contacted. That was about a year ago though, it may have changed. Ask your marina to check their distributors.

Fraser,

There is a plastic company near the airport I bought some starbaord from a few years ago - they had scrap pieces lying around and gave me a good deal. If you want I can see if I can dig up the number for you...

Honestly, IMO, I wouldn't go with teak...probably the same amount of upkeep as your vinyl and would age the look of the boat. I would probably look at starboard.

So where are the two screws? I've taken my door off and looked up from inside the cavity and don't see any screw heads. It does appear looking from the side that there is some kind of fastener but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get it off. I don't want to pry it off if there are screws. If it is just glue then prying is the only option. Did you ever get yours off?

Thanks, Dave

On mine the screws are on the inside and it is glued on to boot. The admiral went to work on this and has got it back to a presentable level..... for now. We have been treating it liberally with Meguairs vinyl and rubber cleaner / protectant, looks ok.

Try toilet bowl cleaner, scrubbing bubbles or tub and tile mildew cleaner on the starboard?

The padding on the top of the transom door is attached with screws on the inside of the door. Take the door off the hinges, turn it upside down as there is no bottom on the door and unscrew the capping.

We took ours off to clean with acid and put back on. They still look horrible and need to be reupholstered.
