Now- this would be a worse case, and if that problem existed previously in your boat, it may have already been rectified and you could just be seeing the lasting effect. It could just be a simple case of the hatch being left unlatched or not fully closed allowing water in at some point in the past.

In the V-berth (if it's like mine) the headliner is just glued directly to the fiberglass. In the salon and the aft cabin, they use the wood supports as you describe.
