AC discharge thrull hull intererior acees

Postby tgmkwill » April 21st, 2019, 8:14 am

97 355 aft , starboard side discharge AC thrull is cracked a little on outside. (White plastic) , want to replace before it becomes an issue. How or where do you access them from inside? I opened up the all the cabinets in the the aft head and under sink thinking that's where they would be, nope! Could not even see them when I took out the night stand and looked back to starboard wall of the hull. Any info appreciated.

Good thing about this group is someone will have the answer to your question. Good luck finding and fixing your issue.

If you take the aft cabin night stand drawer out, then you can pop off the counter top off and stick you head in there you will see the thru hauls behind the starboard exhaust hose, good luck getting to them! They are below and behind the aft head toilet and wall. I think I had to use a scope camera to find them. If your sure they are not leaking back into the boat, may I suggest some Flex Seal on the cracks and let them go. If you do figure out how to get to them may I suggest you replace all 3 thru hauls that are there with stainless steel ones and let us or me know just how you got to them.

Thanks for the information! That's the answer I was afraid of. Flex seal paint it is. Not leaking but the flex seal or maybe smear some jb weld for plastic on the crack. ?? If I figure how to access them I will surely post and replace them with stainless. Thanks!

If your out of the water, maybe plug & tape them off good and spray paint them a couple of times with flex seal. Then they all will look brand new!

Those have a tendency to break right where the flange meets the threaded tube. It's not always so apparent as the flange won't fall off due to the caulking. Take a close look from the outside and if you see a crack around the base of the flange in the hole, the unit must be replaced. This will be a red flag in a survey as it is a safety concern.

^^^^THIS

If it's cracking even just on the outside, eventually it will fail as Viper suggests. Then think about the ramifications. This is not like a sink drain that might leak a little water into the bilge. If you don't know it's cracked and that hose falls off inside the boat, then the A/C pump could be putting 400 GPH INSIDE your boat anytime the A/C is running. NOT a good situation.

I had this issue on my previous boat. Those darn plastic through hull eventually dry out and need replacement. One winter I purchased and replaced all the through hulls with the Stainless variety. Lucked out on the Carver as it came stainless from the factory.

When we did our restore of the 3697, all of the through hulls were replaced with stainless.
Also used the new style fuel vents that don't stick way out.
Hull sides look much nicer.
Thanks

Thanks for all the information, the problem isn't replacing them it is getting to them. Like mjk1040 stated in his reply, where the location is I might not be able to get to them. I am going down to boat this weekend to bottom paint, going bring the inspection camera and check out access to the from behind toilet wall. Might drill a small hole behind the toilet and run the camera through the home to find exactly we're they are. Sounds like if it comes down to it , I might have to cut an access panel in the bathroom behind toilet, but I am think they might be too far down to reach. I will get some pics. If I can get to them , they are all getting replaced with stainless.
