Garmin date and time wrong

Postby Alaska 530 Voyager » May 4th, 2019, 7:03 pm

Hello all, is anyone else experiencing incorrect time and date data on your Garmin GPS Network? For the last three weekends in a row, my Garmin is displaying date and time data from 1999 on the tides and current page. I was keeping an eye on the tide page so that I knew when it was okay to carry the heavy items from my boat up the ramp. Never bothered to look at the shoreline, the ramp was steep. Tried everything to reset and nothing seems to work. Just curious if I'm the only one. Thanks, Dave.

Wow, thanks for the link. I had no idea. My Garmin was just updated to the latest software last fall but apparently it's not new enough. I'll figure it out from here, thanks again.

How old is your Garmin? Units produced within the last several years shouldn't be affected by the rollover. Design changes also mean that the next rollover will be way longer than the current 20 years. They've gone with a higher number of bits for this function which drastically extends the rollover period.

Hi Viper, I bought it in 2012. It's a 5212. I updated it to the newest version of firmware last season.

The season up my way is about to start so I haven't had to deal with this yet but I suspect a lot of people with older equipment will be affected. Getting conflicting feedback depending on who I talk to. Some saying it won't be as bad as predicted save for a few quirks but shouldn't affect navigation that much. Others say it'll be a brutal summer for service calls. Time will tell.

Give Garmin tech support a call and see what they say about your particular unit.
