Kohler Genny Impellor Fried???

Postby Marty » June 9th, 2019, 7:23 pm

Had the marina summarize everything engines, water, genny etc and on the hook went to fire up the genny and got a "LOC" error code. Turns out the impeller had 2 fins left so needs replacing, heaven forbid they let me know??

Mechanics at the marina said I should backslash as most of the fins are MIA?

Anyone think this is necessary??

Yes, you need to back flush and make sure the missing fins made it out of the boat.

Reading I can backflush through the twin cooling loop as I am assuming back through the water/exhaust outlet will be a bad decision....not sure where else this would work.

The blades are probably trapped in the raw water circuit somewhere. Check right at the ports in the pump and the inlet to the heat exchanger. Pull the hose off the exchanger output and back-flush through there. Hopefully there're not any further into the system. You should try to reconstruct the impeller with all the pieces you find to ensure you got all of them.
