We are also still wrestling with this as the numbers just are not dropping, in fact have increased. Let's hope that all the still independent marinas can survive to some extent, I would not want many more bought up by these venture capital backed outfits.....competition is good.

Got my Carver splashed in for the season late yesterday. Hoping to get a test ride today to see how the new props perform.

Spent a couple hours chasing some electrical problems. Broken wire in the arch for cockpit flood lights, bilge pump indicator light had a corroded connection and the remote spotlight control switch is bad.Rain came as I was putting the bridge cover on.

Bud37, I am planning on going in on May 30th. The numbers may be going up do to increased testing and people dropping their guard in the larger city centres and long term care facilities. If it was the end of June I would consider not splashing the boat, but not now. If it was proven that the reason the numbers were going up because marinas are open, that would be different, but thats not the case.

If you are careful, social distance, wash your hands and don't touch your face, you can mitigate risk. When I go shopping I wear a mask and when I drink my beer I make sure I don't drink out of anyone else's can. :beergood:

I guess the 64 thousand dollar question is, will Doug Ford get week in the knees and shut everything down again.

You have to do what you feel comfortable doing for sure. Put her in the water, you know she wants it.

Honestly it's not that, each time we go thru the marina we get the itch bad ( let's go ) but then the after thought , Last fall we pumped the fuel tanks dry, now the boat is put to bed properly. The marina will get new fuel soon...there is no way I am filling the tanks with old fuel again and this is the big one...if they shut us down again (lock us out of the marina with the boat at the slip), there is no possible way they will put the tarp back on properly without some damage somewhere, then re-winterize etc , etc. Just an exercise in futility. We are getting the boat ready to go under the tarp....we are considering selling.

So we will wait till the first week in June and see.....as far as the testing, they have actually been doing less testing, Ford is pissed.

The agreement to open was arrived at IMO so we HAVE to use the staff and pay the marina for everything we normally do ourselves. Imagine the cost going back the other way. There is no discount for the reduced facilities, at least not yet.

There is a bad look to this somehow, maybe we being far too cautious ....but that is us. Here is an example...I watched a real estate agent today walk up to clients at a house near me and shake hands with everyone then proceed to show the house....no distancing, no mask, gloves or sanitizer evident. Imagine what happens when you are not looking.

Greg, I think it's good you still have another week to see what goes on....hopefully all is well and you have a season, maybe we will see you out on the Bay...... :beergood: ...

Ha! That's nothing. At our marina, party town. 6 to 8 people on boats. Coast Guard out in force and the OPP. Saw the Border Patrol once. People still rafting and party as usual.

This is precisely why I thought opening was a bad idea. As I suspected, a total disregard for how contagious and deadly this virus is, and lack of respect for others around you. I was doing work at a couple of marinas Friday, here's just a couple of things I experienced; I'm working on someone's boat and out of nowhere a guy is suddenly in my face on someone else's boat!! This was blocked on land so he came up the ladder that I now had to touch and who knows what else he touch when on board. He wanted to know if I can look at his boat when I was finished. I'm backing off and he just keeps getting closer, no mask, no safe distancing, selfish non-consideration. Finally had to tell him to back off and get off the boat. Also had people wanting me to do work after they've already been on board, "I don't show any symptoms" was the common theme as if that made me feel better. There was also no system in place to let customers know when a tech was last on their boat or letting techs know the last time boaters were on board. Should be interesting this week as I will not set foot on any boat until Wednesday unless I have a guaranty the customer was not on board during the weekend.

Some of us are smart, the rest, not so much. They think because restrictions have lifted that we're in the clear and all is back to normal. I saw some pretty bad things and that was just one day as I refuse to be around on weekends. I can imagine what was going on during the weekend. If what I say continues, I can see the numbers getting out of control again and more shut downs. Not good.

Yup , I don't blame you......Just a thought, why not make up some signs to hang when you are working to let people know to stay off.....seems they have been sold some fogging spray to deal with contact surfaces at 40 bucks an application. Who the hell is training people to do this properly, and what is that stuff.....I dealt with biologic hazards everyday at work and never got sick, but I can say for sure it takes a tremendous amount of attention to detail and managing to implement safe procedures....and these folk have not had proper training, nor the sense....period.

Good thing you didn't see the week end, although after all this, there are many people/boaters that are truly trying hard to comply, this goes against what we all learn as human behaviour.....there just needs more/proper training IMO.

It seems our marina is COVID aware. As of Friday, there were 15 boats in water. Normally would be 150. Saturday, more boats were coming in, but no one was sticking around. Just tie up and leave. Any sign of life or social interaction was far and few between. Our official opening date at the marina is the 29th, unless that changes. We do have power though, so that is a good thing. No water yet. Very little boat traffic on bay. Not even very many fisherman. I am thinking things will stay this way. Our dock master said he has heard from a lot of boaters who are not coming in until after they see the effects of the re-opening of business. That means late June launches for some. Our real boating season, other than hanging out at dock, starts late June anyway. Our other immediate challenge is high water. Just 12 inches below the deck, and 6 inches below the electrical. We will lose power on certain high water days. Level can change in minutes with any wind from the east. Oh well, let's be smart and make the best of it. 8-) er
