Vessel Info: 2001 396, less than 100 hours on twin Cummins-previous owner used it as a virtual condo at the dock. Maintained flawlessly. Just bought yesterday and surveys next week. Selling sea Ray 260, Sundancer, which I loved but becomes way too small fast.

Larger fresh water tank-carver 395 aft cabin 2001

Postby Larbaby2th » July 6th, 2020, 6:48 pm

Hi Carver Owners. My 2001 carver 395 aft cabin only holds 70 gallons of fresh water and constantly running out. Real pain in the butt. Do any of you know if there is room to either add another tank or place a larger tank in the boat? As a much more costly solution, do any of you have water makers and, if so, what brand and size and how good are they. Thanks, Larry

Have a look at the parts schematics for your boat if you can find them and see if there was a larger tank or extra tank option offered.....there may be some insight there.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Are you running on the tank water while at the dock or just out on the hook?

For several years we ran off the tank while at the dock and had to refill it. Not sure really why I didn't use shore water. I got a filter and connected shore water and have been using that ever since. Have to periodically flush out the tank just so the same water isn't sitting in there too long now, but that's not a big deal.

I put an extra tank into my 2003 366. I used a flexible "V" shaped tank & placed it forward and slightly to port. In the 366 if placed under the floor there & connected to the fresh water line going to the forward head, the tank will fill OK. It's been great. The 366 always looks a little stern down & actually, I can't see any difference in water line. The weight of the twin Cummins engines behind there isn't going anywhere.
