1988 Carver 3067 Santego trimming outdrives

Postby Mowery1 » March 22nd, 2021, 7:21 pm

Just purchased a 1988 Carver 3067 Santego and having trouble figuring out how to trim up the outdrives. If I just push the "up" button they won't come up..was told today you have to push the buttons in sequence to make then come up. What's the secret? Thanks..

If you are pushing the outdrive up / down buttons the drives should go up and down. If not you have a problem to solve. There is no secret.
That boat also most likely has trim tabs. The will have buttons to push for bow up or bow down. These buttons will not move your outdrives.

On an 1988 the out drive up / down switches are most likely on you your shifter handles.
The dash buttons are for trim tabs.

Welcome aboard.

Would be good to know if we're talking Volvo or Mercruiser.

Also, if you mean the buttons on your shifter, you may need to have your ignition key on. Probably port engine key. But don't go all the way to start. 8-) er

Mowery1’s Santego has twin mercruisers with alpha 1 drives. The outdrive trim buttons are NOT on the shifters. They will go down but not come up. It should have a third button for trailering to get the drive in the trailer position, but it should come up to a point before the trailer button has to be pressed to raise it even higher. I can’t remember how the buttons are arranged on the 3067. If my memory is correct there are three button forming two columns on the panel just above the throttle and shifter levers. Don’t remember if the top button is up with the middle button for trailering or vice verse.

Can you hear the pump motors working when trying to lift the drives? Try one at a time. If you don't hear the motors running, it's likely the UP solenoid (blue wire). Another possibility is faulty or improperly set trim limit switches. If the motors are running, ensure you have the proper fluid levels and that the fluid is clean.

When was the last time these worked?

I didnt hear the motors running when pushing the up buttons on either drive. Also tried the trailer up button and nothing..Ill try again this weekend..ColRon is right there are no buttons on the shift levers..there are six buttons on the console. Two for trimming up, two for trailer up and two for down.

Since this boat is new to you....have you checked the battery connections/switch and the breaker for the trim system to make sure there is power ? I would do that first......good luck this weekend.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....

Besides what I mentioned above, other possibilities are a wiring issue, faulty switches, or poor connections. Since the down position is working, we have to assume there is power but it doesn't hurt to ensure there is power to items on the UP circuit; switches, UP solenoid as mentioned above, etc.

If you hear the pumps running when trying to trim up, let us know, that takes us in a different direction. Could be a hydraulic issue, pump, trim actuators/rams, etc.

Is the boat in or out of the water?
