Dingy Davits

Does anyone have experience with the Hurley H30 davit system? I am looking to for something that will allow me to leave me outboard on the boat. Provide a reasonable launch and retrieval, and allow access to the swim platform when the dingy is in the water.

Hello, thought I'd refresh this post. I too am looking at the Hurley H3O for the same reasons as Scurvy Dog. Are there any H3O installs out there? What do you think of it? I would be installing on a 356 AC with a 10.5' RIB. Wondering how much space between molded in steps and fender storage rack. RIB currently is vertical on Weaver davits. Thanks.

I have a friend that installed the Hurley H30 on the swim platform of his boat. He has a 12' centre console with a 40 hp on it. He got the DC winch option for it as well. He really likes the unit and it works well in his situation.

I looked at them when I was shopping for a davit systems as well, but do to my limited space on the swim platform, it was too narrow for this set up and I required a system with extensions to make it work.

Your boat is clearly wide enough for a 10'6" dinghy at 13'6", however, you need to sure that the depth of your swim platform will accommodate this system with your dinghy. You need to measure the depth of your swim platform from the back edge to the fender racks. You should also divide the width of your dinghy in half to determine if your swim platform will accommodate half the width of your dinghy. The H 30 also will totally mount on the swim platform so you need to add that to your swim platform. Not sure if the have extensions for that systems yet.

Contact Hurley with your dimensions and they will tell you if you have enough room for the H30 system and your dinghy. You may require a system that allows you to extend off the end of you swim platform.

I had a 1999 Carver 356 and I had the swim platform extended by 40". I installed the standard Hurley set up and it was fantastic. The keel of my dinghy sat at the back edge of the platform. The area of the platform that was covered by the dinghy was half the width of the dinghy, at 2.5'. With this system I had to pull my dinghy up sideways onto two rudders and strap it down. This was a great and reasonably priced system for my 11' Brigg with 9.9 outboard.

Thanks for the great info. Greg. I'll contact Hurley with the dimensions when I get back to the boat to do some measurements. Sounds like you had a sweet setup on your 356 - I'd love to add an extension to my platform.

I am also considering the Dinghy Caddy, however don't want to give up the platform when the dinghy is launched. You have two options pull up and obstruct the platform or drop it in the water. Neither is a great option. I also need to get to the boat and take some measurements.

If you use a Dingy Caddy setup or the Hurley systems, the davits come off to open up your swim platform for use when the dinghy is off the boat. The Dinghy Caddy uses the weaver plates and the Hurley H30 has its own way to remove. The Dinghy Caddy also can flip into the water and can used as a swim ladder.

Are you talking seadek or similar thats stuck down ? Depending where u are it can be measured by you or a rep and installed diy or company.

I purchase the swim platform through, then, Crates Marina, Keswick when I purchased the boat in 2009. The platform was made buy their fibreglass guy (Zee) by hand, so it was not a prefabricated swim platform. He made the moulds to create the perimeter and the put the 1” core with fibreglass on each side. It was very heavy duty and I have not seen anything like it on the after market. Carver sent techs to Crates back them to check out Zee’s platforms and they apparently tried to get him to make platforms for them.

The tech installed fibreglass SS brackets onto the transom and ran 1” plus SS square tube (4) from the brackets to the bottom of the swim platform. The platform was bolted to the edge of the OM’s swim platform edge and fibreglassed into place.

I believe they still do them, but they are located in Keswick, Ontario, Canada.

I was advised that the retail for the platform was $12,000 and the soft cost would have been $6,000. I had it included as part of the purchase arrangements when I bought the boat.

This was the best thing I could have done for the boat. It was large enough to accommodate people, chairs and coolers, however, it did not interfere with getting the boat out of the pocket and on plain. Also gave me a lot of room to store the dinghy flat on the Hurley Davit system with lots of room to move around.
