CLOSE to being ready

Postby tonyiiiafl » April 15th, 2023, 4:23 pm

TWO of teh tasks I hate most….Waxing and bottom painting. BUT they are done. I just cant pay someone what teh marina charges for these two. Together I was looking at $6500.00. Hoping I have time to redo the cat whiskers in teh aft head. But time will tell.

I have to say at 65 it is getting harder to roll on the ground. However next year I have a lead on a small scissor lift. Should make the waxing go a little easier. That up and down and moving the ladder is rough on the body.

Hoping your 2023 season goes great. How's the sewing project going?

It never gets easier. Just the stress thinking about waxing is enough, but then actually doing it is worse. I got really lucky. A guy trying to get into the business did the compounding on my Mariner for $650. I am half way through applying wax, so I dodged that sucky job. I don't mind bottom painting so much. Once I get started, it goes pretty good. The key is the formula you pick. I also don't have salt water to deal with. 8-) er

Thank you G! Sewing is going great! I am finished with the second panel, heading for 3 more now. I wished we could have outside contractors at my storage yard. They charge $45.00/ft for wax below the rub rail, compounding is additional. There have been a few guys who snuck in their “cousin” to help wax, but they were not back for winter storage again.

They sure sound pretty strict where your at. I end up doing my own boat too but have had to do it while its in the water. Here it's in the water all year. Compounded, polish and waxed a couple years ago while floating around on a blow up raft for parts of it that couldn't reach from the dock. Wow that was fun .

They are strict as they want the mark up. You sir have my respect doing that while floating around!

Yeah, that had to be fun. Grinding away with electrical equipment while maintaining balance, could get SHOCKING! :-O I am pretty lucky cause I am in warm storage of a private building owner. He let's us use his railed step assemblies also, on wheels. 8-) er

Tony , for those very reasons for the last few years of ownership we paid to have the hull done.....BUT.... that is really expensive where you are....... :-O

On another note as I look out on the snow falling....yep 83 the other day, 35 today..pause for dramatic effect...... :-O
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.
