Maxwell windless on 1995 Santego

Postby Rtiggy » August 28th, 2024, 10:55 am

Can anyone tell me the model of the Maxwell windless on the 1995 Santego? I have no paperwork. Can’t find anything on the windless and need to order a part.
Thanks! :-)

I'm thinking a Freedom 500 or 800. The star shaped hole on top of the upper chain wheel where you insert the manual crank handle will have the model stamped in it (500 or 800) if it's a Freedom model. Click on this link, then click on the "Freedom" tab and see if this is the unit you have...

Here are photos. The manual hand crank says Maxwell and that’s it. But I will look up the freedom 500 and 800 and see if that’s it.
Thanks so much!

That's not a Freedom unit. Here is a link to Maxwell manuals. Click on "Discontinued Products" on the right....

I have a similar winch. The previous owner still had the manual but the manual covers the RC500 and the RC800. I've found no markings on the winch to tell which model it actually is. I was hoping to replace the chain and anchor but would like to know which weight limit I'm working with. Maybe since it's close to 30 years old I'll assume it's the RC500...

Thanks Viper!!! That was the correct one RC 800 old. It doesn’t say what size anchor and rode should be used. Any idea? As you can see in the picture I think it has the original line on it.
Thanks

Considering this windlass is about 30 years old and worn out, have you considered upgrading to new.

If you are planning on doing a lot of anchoring then at the very least new chain/ground tackle for sure before something lets go at the wrong time....IMO

A new windless is on the list along with many other items, LOL! But we are on a budget or I would own a much newer Grand Banks. So for now we are just looking at getting proper chain and rode.
