3297 Water heater tank removal

Postby Yoeman » May 9th, 2025, 9:53 am

My tank leaks an at this point it looks like splitting a riser and removing exhaust to get the 11 gallon tank out
If I lift the hatch frame up will the tank come out ?
Not sure how to unscrew the hatch support frame and lift it up
On another question for new owner my boat has 2 ac units with dual thermostats on the wall but after changing the AA batteries I can’t get power to them!
The ac panel has not breaker or switch so how do a turn the system on ?
1988 model with twin crusaders and a generator so tight spot to work

Just spitballin.....Don't know your boat but if the tank is junk then maybe you can destroy the tank it to get it out....take some bits off and go from there.....the new tank may be a more compatible size for what you need to get in there.

... Good luck with it.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....

We had a 1986 3297 and if memory serves me right, the entire cock pit floor over the engines will come out to access the water heater, as for the AC issue, we only had one unit in the galley area, but it sounds like you have upgraded units if the thermostats have batteries. Do you have 2 shore line cords feeding the boat or just one? :beergood:

We only have one Ac plug
I’m going to try lifting the floor over the engines and see if that gives me more room!

i have same year and model, cock pit hatch opens and my water heater is right there, pretty easy to get to. I have only one ac unit under sink with controls over the air vent and radio. Are the thermostats wired if not then they are only thermometers. AC breaker is on the main power board. Good luck
