Blower Motor Replacement Tips on 36M

Postby JRoberts » June 14th, 2025, 4:59 pm

Hi y'all,

I've got a 36M with the factory 12,000 BTU AC unit under forward stateroom bed (Picture of it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/V5sdRhVm9bnfR1n49), and the blower motor is breathing it's last breaths as we speak. I was looking to see if anyone on here has done a blower replacement on one of these units, or something similar, and had any advice on what direction to go.

It appears to have some rivets holding the outlet into the rest of the assembly as well as some hex bolts on the edges. Is that all I have to remove in order to get the motor out?

Or would it make more sense to just replace the entire unit, given it's age?

Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Here's a listing of what looks to be the same thing for reference: https://maxmarineoutlet.com/product/tay ... nditioner/

I went down this rabbit hole a while back and the best I came up with was to replace the entire motor/squirrel cage blower unit (circled in red in pic). I found a "lightly used" one down at a shop in St. Augustine, FL. The owner told me when he would install new units in old boats, he would strip the old units for parts. The one I got looked like new and he sold me the whole unit for $100 cash. I did all the work and it has been running great for well over a year now. I wish I could remember the name of the company and since I paid cash I can't look it up from old statements. A Google search of marine air conditioning sales in St. Augustine might yield a lead. Good luck!

Kyle

Not much....fortunately I was able to disconnect the air discharge ducting and slide the unit out enough to do the work. Basically disconnecting the power and then unscrewing the applicable screws. I didn't have to mess with any of the raw water connections. Pretty straightforward but every installation is different! Good luck!!
