engine room blower

Postby Agriman » June 18th, 2025, 2:13 pm

I noticed my port side blower was not working, so I gave it a rap and it started. Shut off and tried again and it didn't start again until tapped again. My question is can it be lubricated or is it toast?

My personal opinion would be, replace it with new. Let me just say ,....if you did get some way to lube it, it is old and damaged so the possibility of it overheating and starting a fire or who knows is not worth it, considering the needed personal safety this units affords.

I think you have may have 2 of them in that model, perhaps consider changing out both while down there.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....

I would recommend replacing too. Most don't have serviceable bearings and it's probably not just a lubrication that's going awry.

If it's your typical in-line blower, I say replace it. If it's the upgraded squirrel-cage type, some higher end units are serviceable.
