Anchor systems

Postby Dochunt » August 26th, 2025, 8:49 am

I have an 83 3607 Aft cabin with a non working windlass anchor system. I am considering replacing. Does anybody have any recommendations on either replacing existing or other styles? This is certainly a work in progress as the previous owner was a notorious duct tape type of guy.

Any advice will be welcomed.

I appreciate it,
Blair

Any halfways decent windlass can draw a large amount of amps so check specs on what you are considering.

Based on your description of the PO then my considered advice would be to check all your existing cable sizes and run lengths/connections etc etc ( remember to count feet both ways ) to ensure you are well within the limits for the windlass draw. That way there should be no risk of damage to the new windlass motor or fire damage to the boat from overheating cable.

A little dramatic but I think ya get the idea. Good luck with the search and install.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

What windlass is on there now? I had an '83 3607 and there was a GOOD Automatic Windlass on it and I saw a lot of other 3607s with that same config. That company is still in business and it was a great windlass, but it was only for rope, no chain. If I had ever replaced mine, it would have gone with something that would handle chain too, so I could have a chain lead.

But my windlass worked great. I went through it shortly after I got the boat, going through all the connections and disassembled and re-lubed it and never had to do anything to it again. Mine had the "free-drop" option too, which was nice.
